The four-semester programme features a more in-depth, interdisciplinary education with information technology, media design, and media technology elements supplemented by theoretical fundamentals. Furthermore, the study programme should enable you to work in a scientific manner including the possibility of doctorate.

Since the consolidation and revival of the IT sector, the employment opportunities for Media Informatics graduates are once again excellent. Also, the occupational field is very varied and ranges from software development for the internet over media concepts and all the way to management activities in e-business. Examples of potential employers are software development companies, consulting companies, and media agencies.

The study programme is accredited by ASIIN and opens the access to the higher grade of the civil service.

Admission requirements:

You must have completed a first academic degree with the overall grade "good" in one of the following subject areas: 

  • Online study programme Media Informatics (Bachelor) of the universities of the University Association Virtual University of Applied Sciences 
  • Bachelor study programme Media Informatics of other German universities 

The examination committee decides on the equivalence of prior education (e.g. diploma programme, foreign university degrees), admission to the studies, and in cases of doubt; at least 80 credit points are required in the information technology field and 25 credit points in the media informatics field. Conditions can be attached to admission. Missing knowledge must be obtained before commencing the study programme (e.g. through corresponding introductory courses or courses from the bachelor programme). 

This course requires knowledge of English which allows you to follow the course materials and, if applicable, also to complete an oral examination in this language.

Language: German/ English

Start of programme:

  • At the beginning of the winter term, respectively summer term (September 15 / March 15), depending on university 
  • Please note the application deadline for restricted admittance study programmes (WS: May 1 to July 15 and SS: November 1 to January 15).

Length/ standard period of study:

  • 4 semesters full time, correspondingly longer for part time.

Degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.) 

Costs:

  • You pay 78 Euros per course and semester (costs for special services in online study programmes)
    For this study programme with 4 semesters and 18 online courses, the total is: 
    18 courses x 78.- Euros = 1,404.- Euros 
  • BAföG recipients (proof required) pay 53.- Euros per course and semester.

The respective semester fees of the offering universities and costs for internet usage and travel costs to participate in face-to-face meetings are additional.

Please note that tuition fees may be charged. These vary by German federal state or are not charged at all. At present no tuition fees may be levied in the federal states Berlin, Brandenburg und Schleswig-Holstein. In Niedersachsen online programmes are not subject to this regulation. Questions in this regard are answered by the admissions offices of the associated universities
