Successfully shaping digital transformation in residential elderly care through systematic skills enhancement and participation

Funding amount: €670,625.55

Promoting continuing professional development in transition

The digital transformation and the associated demands on professional nursing are impacting staff with low digital skills to an increased degree, particularly due to the nursing shortage. The project focuses on people with and without a migration background, who are to be empowered to play a greater role in shaping their work. In the first step, this is achieved through a stress and resource analysis as well as a skills analysis regarding existing competencies in dealing with digital media. In the second step, the focus will be on the participation-oriented modification of work processes through the appropriate use of digital end devices in the work itself.

The aim of the DiWaKom project is therefore the further training and competence development of the target group and their digital skills, with a focus on the design of resource-conserving and stress-reducing work processes while simultaneously building the necessary structures.

These are created as part of the project by digital guides and digital officers, among others. They support employees with the progressive digitalisation and innovation in the field of elderly care. This support makes it possible to create genuine relief for care staff and to make everyday care more resource-efficient. Basic and advanced digital training is being established as part of the corporate culture, which also includes the introduction of a learning platform featuring digital self-study options and the establishment of an e-learning competence team as a further important structural support for care staff. Through these measures, the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist is also becoming an attractive institution for recruiting new employees. The learning management system set up in the project and tailored to the needs of the target group is also to be operated beyond the project period and made available for use by third parties.

The European Union, together with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, is funding the programme “Shaping the world of work in a socially partnered way: further training and promoting equality” in Germany via the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus).
