Danish-German project on safe medication management launched with kick-off conference
The Interreg project „The Good Prescriber“ aims to develop a digital tool that supports the safe prescription of medicines in psychiatry and reduces medicine consumption. To this end, data from existing hospital systems is to be imported and intelligently combined to enable even more precise medication tailored to the individual needs of patients, as well as to improve drug safety.
The challenge is that prescribing multiple medications can lead to an increased risk. These include side effects, potential duplicate prescriptions, and interactions between different medications. As a result, drug effects can either be unintentionally enhanced or weakened and, in the worst-case scenario, jeopardise the success of the treatment.
The digital tool to be developed in the project aims to remedy this. At the same time, it serves to respond to the strained situation in the Danish and German healthcare systems, which are under pressure in terms of economic, personnel and time resources.

The aim of the project is therefore the further training and skills development of the target group and their digital knowledge, with a focus on designing resource-saving and stress-reducing work processes while simultaneously building the structures required for this.
These are created as part of the project by digital guides and digital officers, among others. They support employees with the progressive digitalisation and innovation in the field of elderly care. This support makes it possible to create genuine relief for care staff and to make everyday care more resource-efficient. Basic and advanced digital training is being established as part of the corporate culture, which also includes the introduction of a learning platform featuring digital self-study options and the establishment of an e-learning competence team as a further important structural support for care staff. Through these measures, the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist is also becoming an attractive institution for recruiting new employees. The learning management system set up in the project and tailored to the needs of the target group is also to be operated beyond the project period and made available for use by third parties.
The European Union, together with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, is funding the programme “Shaping the world of work in a socially partnered way: further training and promoting equality” in Germany via the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus).

The Interreg project „The Good Prescriber“ aims to develop a digital tool that supports safe medication prescribing in psychiatry and reduces drug consumption. To this end, data from existing hospital systems is to be imported and intelligently merged to enable even more targeted medication that is better tailored to patients' individual needs, and to improve medication safety.
The challenge is that prescribing multiple medicines can lead to an increased risk. This includes side effects, possible duplicate prescriptions and interactions between different medicines. As a result, the effects of the medicine can either be unintentionally amplified or weakened, and in the worst case, it can jeopardise the success of the treatment.
The digital tool to be developed in the project must alleviate this situation. At the same time, it is a response to the strained situation in the Danish and German healthcare systems, which are under pressure regarding financial, staffing and time resources.
